The product would work well in the climate zones of Arizona, Texas, Florida -most of the time. If the aera is even slightly shaded or used anywhere sunlight can be obscured by clouds for any length of time, you will be frustraded by this product. Instead purchase one with the battery pack, it would be worth the extra 20 bucks to have it work when you want it to, and not simlpy when conditions are perfect.

Mosquito Magnet MM4000 Defender Mosquito Trap Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Mosquito Magnet Defender (MMD) model about five weeks ago for my parents home on a wooded, heavily vegetated lot in Ohio.
Having recently seen a TV interview with a West Nile Virus victim that was nearly killed I felt a strong need to eliminate this risk to my parents, who are at greater risk because of their advancing age.
My father likes to sit outside on the patio for hours reading the paper and smoking. Unfortunately, the mosquitoes make it difficult to sit there sometimes. Even so, he is the type of person to brush off the risk and refuse to wear repellent. A prime candidate for West Nile should there be virus present.
I had a Defender shipped to their address and was anxious to set it up and start sucking in huge quantities of mosquitoes. I was hoping for spectacular results because I knew they would find out how much the unit cost and question my decision to purchase it.
We assembled the unit pretty easily but we did have to purchase a new propane tank before starting. The MMD appears to be a solidly built unit designed for constant exposure to weather.
Determining the correct location for the trap is important and the method is detailed on their website. You must also place the trap within reach of an electrical outlet. The cord is quite long but you will need an exterior outlet or a way to run the cord into your house.
Upon startup there is a brief warm up period where the status light on the power switch blinks red. When fully operational it turns to a solid red and stays that way until the unit runs out of propane. You can hear a quiet hum from the fan(s). The unit blows a downward plume of warm carbon dioxide and simultaneously vacuums up the air near the source of the plume. The warm CO2 and an Octenal cartridge (included) attract the biting insects. The insects hover around the mouth of the machine and make a number of passes at it until they get caught in a mild vacuum and sucked into a metal-screened net assembly. The air stream is strong enough to prevent them from flying out and they struggle to stand up in the net until they dry up and die. The open net is visible from the exterior of the machine through a clear plastic access door. You can check the contents of the trap without touching the machine. The net assembly is easy to empty and is sturdy enough to rinse clean and reuse many times. You're supposed to leave the MMD run 24/7 to maximize its impact on the mosquito population.
In the first couple of hours of operation my unit caught a few mosquitoes and a bunch of no-see-ums. The next couple of weeks were about the same. I wanted to see hundreds of mosquitoes but got a couple of dozen. The propane tank ran out after about three weeks and I had a few dozen mosquitoes, a bunch of no-see-ums and a tiny spider that crawled in to eat on the dead bugs. Not exactly a justification for purchase. But there simply were not many mosquitoes present in the yard at that point in their reproductive cycle.
It turned out to be a mistake to measure the machine by the number of mosquitoes in the net. As the previously laid eggs hatched the MMD then captured many of the newly hatched young. Now I am in week five (end of July) and the unit has captured about 50-100 mosquitoes in just the last 3-4 days. They appear to be newly hatched young. I am excited to think of all the offspring these insects WON'T be having and I am reassured that the MMD actually works in the presence of mosquitoes.
And this is the key to owning one of these machines. They are most effective over a period of time. Unlike a vacuum cleaner which does it job in just one pass, the Mosquito Magnet takes in the insects a few at a time and prevents them from reproducing hundreds more for the future. Mosquitoes do not migrate so once you've knocked down your local population it is difficult for them to recover. Having spent a lot of money, the temptation is for wanting a spectacular, instant return on your investment - but that is unlikely. The MMD does catch mosquitoes and probably does so better than other products. But the results are not instantaneous.
The real test will be after two or three seasons. If the MMD can create a mosquito free zone for multiple seasons it will probably have paid for itself. Of course, the more you dislike mosquitoes, the more valuable it will be.
The downside is the cost of the unit. Is there a cheaper way to do the job? Chemicals are probably cheaper, but those have a downside too. The MMD works constantly and with no effort on your part for three weeks at a time. It is easier, cleaner and safer than chemicals.
Unlike Citronella and DEET, which temporarily repels the mosquitoes only for them to return to bite another day and unlike poison which wipes out the entire spectrum of insects, the MMD selectively kills only biting insects. It permanently eliminates them in an environmentally conscious manner. Other insects are simply not attracted to the machine. The ease and cleanliness of the operation are appealing.
I would recommend the Mosquito Magnet Defender because it is promising over the long run. Its design and principle of operation are logical. It does seem to capture a large proportion of the mosquitoes that it comes into contact with and so far it appears to be a good investment.
But only time will be the final judge of its cost effectiveness.

I needed a hanger I could mount in the front of the garage that would allow me to park the car and the other two bikes would be hung above the car hood. This did it just fine. It holds two bikes and took maybe five minutes to install. It does what it said it would and I like it. The folding part is nice if you need to get to the wall without bumbing into things. Smart, simple, cheap and it works.

(More customer reviews)We haven't had this item very long; however, the ordering experience from Amazon.com went very smooth and the installation went without any problems. The test phase following installation went without incident and the unit fired up on the scheduled date. We hired a contractor to perform the installation for $2700.00 and I watched every step. I would recommend going the contractor route unless you are a professional electrican. I have repaired home electrical appliances, wired new buildings, etc, but I do not consider myself qualified to install this unit.
The only problem was: The shipping container was too flimzy to contain such a heavy item and most of it had been mutilated by the time it was delivered. I am surprised that the unit arrived un damaged with the only missing item being one piece of the bottom facia plastic trim, which was replaced by Generac.

Whistler PI-400W 400 Watt Power Inverter Review

(More customer reviews)I had previously purchased a Xantrex 851-400 inverter to run in conjunction with a marine battery so as to power lights for my jewelry booth at Art Fairs. I was very happy with it but when I decided to expand my use of lights, necessitating a second battery and a second inverter, for whatever reason I decided to try the Whistler PI-400W and save a whopping $7.55. Big mistake. The Xantrex will operate flawlessly for 2 days sucking enough juice out of that marine battery to operate 75 watts of CFL bulbs for 8-10 hours each day. The Whistler worked well for the first day but kick off after 2 hours of the second. The first time that it happened I rationalized that perhaps I hadn't fully charged the second marine battery but after making sure to test it again with both batteries on successive weekends, I got the same result both times. The moral of the story is that Amazon does a great job of refunding your money during the first 30 days and don't get cheap when making your purchase. If you find a product that does the job well that you need it to do, pay the man!

(More customer reviews)When it says 'Terracotta' I didn't pay attention to the word 'color' following it. I didn't look into it enough, and that's my fault. But don't be fooled like I was. It's terracotta colored, and made of plastic. The pieces aren't put together well, and fall apart easily when you attempt to move it. It's also very light. Could easily fly away in the wind. So don't leave it outside without dirt in it. When dirt is put in it, it should stay assembled and straight, (if you don't try to move it.) Overall, it's a good product, usable, and does what it claims to do. Just beware of the few misleading statements.

Max is 11 years old and has had to be medicated every summer for this problem. While doing research on flea control I read about nematodes and decided to give them a try. They have worked wonders for Max, this is the first summer he hasn't had a severe reaction to fleas!
After seeing how well they worked to control the fleas I bought some for the cabbage cut worms in our garden. I am pleased to say that in the 25 years we have had a garden this is the first year we haven't lost one head of cabbage yet.
Plus, if you are worried about this, we have checked a small specimen from each shipment with a microscope and found the nematodes to be alive and well upon receipt. Our grandchildren love watching them and get excited everytime we get a package.
Nematodes prey upon more than just fleas and cut worms so I suggest checking out the list of things they kill. If you have trouble with any of the pests on the list purchase some for yourself and I am sure you will be pleased with the results. Nematodes are microscopic wonders!

I love how they approach their material in a way that someone who knows nothing about the subject can understand. The books then go on to give a useful level of depth about the subject. This kit does not. The 'book' is a pamphlet and is only useful for very small gardens. Just because I am a drip irrigation dummy does not mean I am a dummy with a small garden. I'm picking up my drip irrigation knowlege piecemeal with no confidence in my conclusions and hoped that this kit would solve that. It doesn't. I want to know what size pipes are appropriate where? How many emitters can I connect before the water pressure gets too low? What, exactly, is an emitter? How does water pressure affect my setup? When are filters necessary? What the heck's a manifold? How long are you supposed to water (that would be a complex answer depending on emitter, water pressure, and soil, I would imagine)? What kind of timers are best for which situations? When I go looking for answers I tend to get swamped with options I don't understand. I would expect a dummies book to address these questions clearly and concisely. Instead you get something that's only useful if you're trying to water less than a dozen plants and that will probably get clogged up fairly soon because there's no filter (or so I gather - I could be wrong about that, I haven't found a book to explain it properly to me).

is the closest I've come to finding my answers.
It's not as 'basic' as I would like and I haven't tried to implement its reccomendations yet but it does appear to have the answers to my questions.
